Emergency preparedness planning is essential for all families and for any society. These activities saves people's lives so there is absolutely no excuse not to do them. No one wants to think about things like this happening to us or those we love so we tend to ignore the issue all together - Bad mistake!
Emergency preparedness kits are essential in planning for an emergency. Although some of the items in an emergency kits will not necessarily be life saving, they should be adequate to help you sustain yourself and maintain your energy reserves until such time that rescue crews and emergency medical personnel can assist you.
Keep in mind that emergency facilities such as hospital or clinics may also be overwhelmed by the event and may fail to function right away. This makes the first aid supplies a core piece of your emergency preparedness supplies.
The next consideration is tayloring your emergency preparedness strategy to your unique family and living situation. Many people go as far as to create a family emergency plan for many possible scenarios. It is important to understand that many factors could separate when an emergency strikes. Accordingly, it is important to create a strategy that everyone in your family understands and have practiced ahead of time.
Many families choose to invest in emergency preparedness kits only when the family starts to grow. This should not be the case, because everybody, even those living alone in a apartment, can invest in these emergency supplies.
Next, What is an Emergency Preparedness Checklist? It's a simple to do list, designed especially for you, to help summarize the elements in your larger emergency strategy you created for when emergency conditions are looming, usually from severe weather.
The first step to writing your own Emergency Preparedness Checklist is to evaluate your geographic location and climate, based on the emergencies you're likely to encounter. Each Emergency Preparedness Checklist should be unique. A family living near an ocean coastline would have a completely different list from a rancher living in an area prone to wildfire.
But an Emergency readiness checklist is more than a to do list. It's a way to help you stay focused, prepareded, and positive and focused on useful things. By making the best use of your time before disaster strikes, you'll be in a better position to 'ride out' whatever comes your way.

Actually we do not. I am going to have to talk with my wife about this, so us and the kids can be safe in case of something out of our control.
ReplyDeleteVery good reminder. We live in an area that could be affected by war, hurricane, severe winter weather and even terrorists attacks. It would be better to have a plan in place.
ReplyDeleteWe are. Our family prepared after the 9/11 attacks and the last snow storm that knocked out our power for a few days. You are not going to know where you are in survival mode until you have to use it. Good tips!
ReplyDeleteNatural disasters in our area include tornadoes and that is about it. We have a plan in place, with survival training for our children and talk about it a couple of times per year to be sure we are prepared.
ReplyDeleteGood tips. The problem is that there could be disasters that come out of nowhere and they can be the hardest to prepare for.
